Hey there! Welcome to the new and *honestly muchhh improved* Tapestry Photos site! My name’s Laken, and I am an intimate wedding photographer based in Texas. I live with my history teaching, gig ’em shouting, cute as heck husband, and our dog, Jack, and two cats, Georgia and Minnie. My little family means so much to me, and I LOVE that I get to call photography my full-time gig!
I decided to start fresh with all new blog content that’s focused on serving you. I hope when you come here you feel all the warm, nostalgic and inviting vibes I’ve poured into my little corner of the internet!
It just felt right to start with an introduction post, so here is 3 Things You *Probably* Didn’t Know About Me! (and things you should know about me if you’re considering hiring me to photograph your love story!)
Starting my own business in photography (something I’ve loved for a looong time) seemed like a pipe dream not too long ago.
But, In 2019 I finally got up the nerve to put in a notice after working in marketing for a few years out of college. I spent many late nights researching how to start a photography business, but I knew it would all come down to deciding to go all in.
So I hit the ground running, photographing anything and everything, and working hard to create a business that truly connected with people. From the beginning it was about more than just photos. I wanted connection, community, and a business that made people feel seen and understood.
Not long after, 2020 hit and it was my crash course in how to build a business that matters and one that serves my people well. Even though it’s been a wild ride so far, it’s taught me a whole lot about how much it means for someone to trust me with documenting the sacred moments in their life.
And, I take that privilege very seriously.
Long before the Enneagram got super popular, I took the Meyers-Briggs personality test after learning about it from a friend in college. I always been more introverted when it comes to recharging, but I also love connecting with people. I guess it makes sense that I’ve always been told I’m an old soul and mature for my age.
One of my strengths has always been listening and feeling emotions deeply, and as a photographer I think this is so important to capturing what the moment actually feels like.
I moved back to my small NE Texas town after living in Little Rock for a year when I was 22 years old. I guess it’s true that you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of the girl. All cheesiness aside, I love my home state and I love living in a small town even more.
But, I’ve always loved to travel. I’ve been all over the country from coast to coast and north to south and experienced something unique and breathtaking in all the places I’ve seen so far.
I’ve been to 22 of the 50 states and I hope to cross all 50 off my bucket list in the next 10 years.
Washington State – My granddad was born and raised in Aberdeen, Washington. The same town as Kurt Cobain!
London, England – My great grandmother (Mama Joan) grew up outside of London, and I got to go meet all of my extended family that still lives there in 2016
Barcelona, Spain – no family ties, it’s just a breathtaking place, full of beautiful culture and places
Some other favorites are Huntington Beach, Las Vegas, Hilton Head Island, the Grand Canyon, and Savannah.
